6m x 4m Insulated Custom Workshop

Two-building workshop project in Northamptonshire

This project in Northampton, Northamptonshire, included two separate custom buildings: a 6m x 4m insulated workshop and a 7m x 4.5m non-insulated equipment store.

Both buildings were specified with Western Red Cedar cladding to two faces and metal box profile cladding to two faces. This kept the main visible elevations in timber while helping reduce the overall cost of the project.

Ground screw foundations were used for the insulated workshop, with SIP construction, 100mm insulation to the walls, floor and roof, an EPDM rubber roof, gutter and downpipe.

Custom insulated workshop specification

The main building was a custom insulated workshop, designed as a practical workspace with secure access, natural light and usable internal space.

The insulated workshop included SIP construction with 100mm insulation to the walls, floor and roof. Internally, it was finished with OSB to the walls and 22mm chipboard over-boarding to the floor.

The specification also included internal LED lights, an external PIR light, an extractor fan, six twin metal clad sockets and an RCD unit, with the lights and sockets wired to Part P regulations.

Doors and windows across both buildings

The insulated workshop was fitted with steel security French doors and a metal door surround, giving the building a wide, secure opening for workshop use.

It also included two 800mm x 600mm grey UPVC opening windows, white internally, with security bars fitted for added protection.

The separate equipment store was also designed with practical access in mind, including secure door options and a UPVC single-person access door. This gave both buildings suitable access for tools, materials and equipment.

The second building was a custom non-insulated equipment store, built as a timber frame structure for secure storage.

Like the main workshop, it used Western Red Cedar cladding to two faces and metal box profile cladding to two faces. Internally, it included OSB to the walls and ceiling.

The equipment store also included internal LED strip lights, two twin metal clad sockets, an RCD unit and an EPDM rubber roof. Together, the two buildings gave the customer a practical workshop and a separate storage building on the same site.

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you and all the team who installed our garden office at the end of November. I was delighted that EVERYONE from the crew who did the initial build (in just two days!), to the plasterer (a true "old school " artisan!) and the electrician and painting team were absolutely amazing, VERY professional, cheerful, quick and left the site very tidy indeed!
